Why speak another language?

An unexpected spread

Many people believe we only learn a foreign language when preparing to travel abroad.

They don’t know that learning a language provides countless opportunities in every aspect of our lives: personal, academic, professional, political, and so on.

The French language is spoken in more than 30 countries spread throughout 5 continents and there is a total of more than 300 million francophones (people who speak French.)

French is the 5th most spoken language in the world (after English, Chinese, Hindi and Spanish) and the 4th one online (after English, Mandarin and Spanish.)

Many international organizations have French as their official language.

  • the European Union (EU)

  • the United Nations (UN)

  • the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

  • the World Trade Organization (WTO)

  • the African Union (AU)

  • the European Space Agency (ESA)

  • the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA)

  • the International Swimming Federation (FINA)

A globalized world
