French teacher
Danilo De Sousa

Hi! My name is Danilo De Sousa and I'm going to introduce myself!

I am a French teacher, I was born and raised in Brasília, capital of Brazil. This is where I started studying French and English at the age of 14 at the Public Language Center of the Federal District. At 17, after participating in a slam contest, I was invited by one of the judges to join a theater group in French at the University of Brasília.

A year later, I took part in the contest again and as a prize I was offered a trip to France. During my first stay, I was able to meet people from all over the world, which made me fall in love with the French language.

At the age of 19, back in Brasília, I started a bachelor degree in French language and literature at the University of Brasília (duration: 4 years) where I also joined the research group LEDRAC (Literature, education and contemporary dramaturgy).

Just before I turned 22, I had the opportunity to make a second trip to France. This time, in Vichy, in a training center linked to the University of Clermont Auvergne. I returned to Brasília, I finished my bachelor degree, I started working at the language center of the University of Brasília.

In total, during my studies, I was an assistant for 7 semesters of different disciplines such as: practice of oral and written French 1 and 4; analysis and production of texts in French; and morphosyntax of French. I developed 4 research projects that resulted in 4 articles, I participated in the staging of more than 10 plays in French, Portuguese and Libras (Brazilian sign language), as an actor, general assistant, or even director. I have also participated in countless regional, national and international seminars and congresses on French-speaking literature and/or on the teaching of French as a foreign language.

And in December 2016, the Imagine Cultural Institute was born with the main aim of facilitating access to languages and cultures for those who have little means.

In 2019, I was invited to be a substitute professor of the discipline Analysis and production of texts in French as part of the course Foreign languages applied to multilingualism and the information society, offered by the Institute of letters of the University of Brasilia.

In September 2019, I started my double master's degree in literature, teaching and training engineering (IFCI) with a focus on French-speaking dramaturgies from sub-Saharan Africa, multicultural teaching / learning contexts and the training of teachers of foreign languages. I did a first part at the University of Brasília, in Brazil and a second at the University of Nantes, in France where I settled in January 2020 and some distance disciplines at the University of Aveiro, in Portugal. I successfully completed this master in October 2020.

Then, still in France, I decided to start a  master's degree in didactics research at the University of Bretagne Occidentale at the Pierre-Jakez Hélias University Pole, in Quimper where I currently live and work as a teacher of French (FLE) and Portuguese.

In January 2021, with the contribution of Gaël Hémery, the digital platform of the Imagine Cultural Institute went online.

And in June 2022, I returned to Vichy to start a master's degree in linguistics and didactics of French as a foreign language (LiDIFLES) at Cavilam.

It's been 8 years since I started working as a French teacher, and I've already had more than 1000 students.

Today, I work in collaboration with Gaël Hémery on the improvement of the method that we developed during the year 2020 as well as on the ICIFRANCAIS.FR platform.
